Arts + STEM Collaborative for 21st Century Learning
A tri-county partnership between Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties
The Arts + STEM Collaborative was established in 2013 to provide arts, STEM and education leaders throughout Southern California with the opportunity to share best practices and identify areas of convergence. Established thanks to funding from The Boeing Company, the Collaborative's vision is to advance high quality Arts + STEM education so that students will be prepared to drive the innovative workforce of the future.
Arts + STEM is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the processes and content knowledge of the arts, science, technology, engineering and math, through project-based learning. The rollout of the new California Standards makes this regional effort timely as school districts reimagine ways to prepare students for a rapidly changing and globally connected world.
The Collaborative has established three goals:
- Identify high quality models throughout the region.
- Define attributes of optimal Arts + STEM learning environments.
- Collaboratively develop, implement and support Arts + STEM programming, including conferences and symposiums, region wide.
Coordinated by Arts for All, the Orange County Department of Education, and STEAM Connect,
representatives from government, higher education, business and non-profit entities are all participating. The Collaborative is led by:
